Anglers also target massive striped bass, channel and blue catfish, panfish, and seasonal stocks of rainbow trout. DVL is strictly a "no body contact" lake—meaning no swimming or water sports—keeping the waters exceptionally pristine and focused on boating, kayaking, and high-caliber angling.

Fishing at Lake Skinner Recreation Area offers a premier year-round freshwater experience in Riverside County. Renowned for its peaceful environment and strict 10 mph boat speed limit. Because the reservoir supplies local drinking water, swimming and body contact are prohibited, ensuring a tranquil setting ideal for targeting trophy-sized striped bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and rainbow trout. Anglers frequently find success utilizing finesse plastic presentations for largemouth bass along the shallow weed beds and rocky points, or deploying cut baits like mackerel and chicken liver near the deeper inlet waters for heavy summer catfish. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife heavily stocks rainbow trout during the cooler winter and spring months.
